Modernizing the grid
Ameren was using leased lines to manage substations, and reliability had become a serious problem. Leased lines didn’t have the bandwidth required for video monitoring, either.
Now, Ameren is building a private fiber-based network. It will connect 420 substations, so Ameren can improve grid management and access timely information from the grid.
Ameren chose the Nokia Service Router portfolio for IP/MPLS-based communications between substations and control centers. It supports a wide range of transport media and has legacy interfaces to connect Ameren’s equipment.
