The Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is the telecommunication system designed by UIC for the evolution of the railway communication systems worldwide.
FRMCS will be the enabler for railways' digitalization. This will allow for the implementation of many use cases and services, which benefit from the underlined 5G technology features like high throughput, low latency, etc. A flexible, scalable, secure and future ready IP/optical backbone network is fundamental to seamlessly transport those services, and it is one of the first steps for the GSM-R to FRMCS transition.
